Launched in 2024, Leafcloud Managed Kubernetes simplifies cluster management by automating provisioning, maintenance, and scaling. This lets developers focus on app development without worrying about infrastructure. The platform has an easy-to-use interface for deployment and monitoring, keeping clusters secure and up-to-date.
Leafcloud Sustainable Initiative
Leafcloud is a Dutch cloud computing provider, founded in 2019, that brings a green, open, and affordable alternative to the increasing power demand and carbon emissions of the cloud industry. Key features of their sustainable cloud computing model are:
Heat Reuse: Leafcloud captures and reuses server heat to warm buildings like apartments, nursing homes, hotels, and pools, cutting down on fossil fuel use.
Energy Efficiency: Servers are housed in existing structures, reducing the need for new data centers and repurposing about 85% of heat for local heating systems.
Decentralized Infrastructure: Instead of traditional data centers, Leafcloud places servers in urban areas where heat can be effectively used, maximizing energy efficiency and minimizing waste.
Carbon-Negative Operations: Leafcloud claims to be carbon-negative, removing more CO2 from the atmosphere than it emits, thanks to its heat reuse strategy and efficient operations.
Sustainability Metrics: Leafcloud uses Energy Re-use Effectiveness (ERE) to measure its sustainability, with an ERE around 0.15—about ten times more efficient than the average data center with an ERE of 1.67.
Through these efforts, Leafcloud not only provides a sustainable cloud solution but also helps reduce the cloud industry’s overall carbon footprint.
